Cracked Lower Second Molar Replaced with a Dental Implant

Updated: Mar 23, 2019

Lower right second molar before extraction

The above lower right second molar developed pain and on the xray showed a very small infection at the bottom of the back root. After a visit to the endodontist, a vertical fractured was diagnosed that extended to the root. The tooth required extraction and was planned to be replaced with a dental implant.

After extracting the tooth, the socket was debrided/disinfected and no bone graft or membrane was used. Complete bone healing and regeneration occurred and a dental implant was placed in the ideal location for a crown.

Immediate post operative xray after implant surgery.
